Defense Ministry Warns Wounded-Soldier Rehab Could Collapse
The Defense Ministry warned on July 2, the 1,000th day since Hamas's October 7 massacre, that Israel's system for rehabilitating wounded soldiers and security personnel could collapse without immediate implementation of the Mor-Yosef committee reforms. It said about 26,200 wounded have sought treatment through the Rehabilitation Department since the war began, up from 25,000 last month, and about 65% are being treated for psychological conditions. The ministry projects more than 90,000 wounded from all Israeli wars under care in 2026 and about 100,000 by 2028, roughly half with psychological harm. Israel owes its fighters more than gratitude: funded case managers, expanded mental-health treatment and faster recognition are national security needs.
