Aoun Tells Critics to Offer Better Israel-Lebanon Alternative
On July 5, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun told journalists he was not in love with Israel but asked opponents of the Israel-Lebanon framework to offer another path that would pull Lebanon out of war. At the Baabda Palace, Aoun called the framework an opening, not a final agreement, and said he was awaiting the U.S. ambassador before a possible Washington visit. The State Department framework text confirms the official track is built around Lebanese sovereignty, peace and disarming non-state armed groups. For Israel, Aoun's message matters because Lebanese state authority choosing diplomacy over Hezbollah's Iranian war agenda is the path to safer northern communities.
