US Strikes Iranian Targets After Hormuz Ship Attacks
U.S. Central Command said late Tuesday U.S. time that American forces had begun powerful strikes against Iran after attacks on three commercial ships near the Strait of Hormuz. The command said the strikes were meant to impose costs for targeting civilian-crewed commercial shipping in an international waterway and called Iran's aggression a ceasefire violation. British maritime authorities said one LNG tanker caught fire, two other ships were damaged, and no casualties were reported. Washington had revoked an Iranian-oil license hours earlier as the Hormuz escalation threatened talks over reopening the strait and ending the U.S.-Iran war launched with Israel on February 28.
