NIF Says House Tax Probe Allegations Lack Merit
New Israel Fund CEO Mickey Gitzin pushed back Friday against a Republican congressional probe into whether the U.S. charity violated tax-exempt rules by funding groups tied to Israel's 2019 election, saying NIF obeys U.S. and Israeli law and that the allegations lack merit. House Judiciary and Ways and Means chairs Jim Jordan and Jason Smith allege grants to groups including Zazim and Adalah supported campaign activity against Netanyahu, a charge NIF rejects. Rep. Jerry Nadler called the probe outrageous, while Jason Smith said stronger enforcement is needed. The fight keeps U.S. tax oversight, Israeli election integrity and foreign nonprofit influence inside Israel's campaign year.
