Discount Board Begins Examining Mercantile Merger

Israel Discount Bank's board authorized management on Monday to examine merging wholly owned Mercantile Discount Bank into the parent bank. Discount said no binding decision has been made, there is no certainty the merger will proceed or when, and any deal would require approval by the banks' authorized bodies and regulators. The review is intended to strengthen the group's competitiveness, operational flexibility, and allocation of technology and infrastructure investment. Discount said it plans to preserve Mercantile's brand and expertise serving Arab and Haredi communities, small and medium-sized businesses, and local authorities if a merger advances.
