Deri Commits Shas to Netanyahu and Rejects Eisenkot Overtures

Shas chairman Aryeh Deri said his party will support Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to lead the next government, rejecting recent overtures by Gadi Eisenkot. Deri described the faith-based bloc as Shas's political home and Netanyahu as the most experienced candidate, while saying the party still favors a broader government anchored by that bloc. He accused Eisenkot's camp of hostility toward religious institutions. Deri also said Eisenkot's draft proposal would endanger the Torah-study world by limiting exemptions to a small share of each conscription cohort.
