Rambam Tests External Prostate Ultrasound in First Human Trial

Rambam Health Care Campus is testing an Israeli-developed treatment for benign enlarged prostate that delivers high-intensity focused ultrasound through the skin, without an incision or instruments entering the urethra. The first-in-human study has treated three men, who are undergoing roughly three months of follow-up. The outpatient procedure combines real-time imaging with focused energy to ablate targeted tissue, with no general anesthesia or hospitalization planned. Researchers said early safety expectations are being met, while cautioning that the small feasibility study does not yet prove long-term effectiveness or replace established treatments.
