UNESCO Adds Tyre to Heritage-in-Danger List Amid Israel-Hezbollah War

UNESCO's World Heritage Committee placed the ancient Lebanese city of Tyre on the List of World Heritage in Danger after citing documented war damage and the risk of further harm. The designation followed Lebanon's request and covers archaeological remains including a Roman triumphal arch and second-century hippodrome. Israel said the committee should reject the weaponization of cultural heritage, citing Hezbollah's use of Beaufort Castle as a military base and hundreds of rockets launched from its ridge toward northern Israel. The IDF says Hezbollah began the renewed conflict by firing on Israel in March.
