State prosecutors filed charges in Beersheba Magistrate's Court against Hani al-Atrash, 29, Sufian Atrash, 23, and Salem al-Kashkhar, 54, alleging a protection-money scheme targeting Al-Kasom Regional Council. The indictment says the three received more than NIS 126,000 between 2022 and 2025 for security shifts they systematically failed to perform. Prosecutors say the council's security officer continued approving payments amid repeated damage to council property, at times marking forms “protection” and “extortion.” All three face charges of collecting protection money, and prosecutors asked that they remain detained through the proceedings.
