Foreign Ministry Marks Hebrew Anniversary of 1929 Hebron Massacre

The Foreign Ministry marked the Hebrew anniversary of the 1929 Hebron massacre in a Friday statement ahead of Shabbat. It said Grand Mufti Amin al-Husseini incited the violence in which 67 Jews were murdered by Arab neighbors in Hebron. The ministry described the victims as members of a Jewish community with roots stretching back more than 3,000 years. Its statement linked the anniversary to the continuing Jewish connection to Hebron and said efforts to erase the Jewish people from their ancestral homeland predated the State of Israel and would not succeed.
