Ramla hosted Peru’s 205th Independence Day celebration Friday at Hagana Park, with Peruvian Ambassador Javier Sánchez-Checa Salas, embassy staff, Mayor Michael Vidal and members of the Peruvian community attending. Peruvian and Israeli flags flew together as music filled the park and families arrived from across Israel. Vidal said the embassy has chosen Ramla for the celebration for several years, and pointed to the city’s sister-city relationship in Peru as evidence of ties built over decades. He said the gathering honored the community’s identity, memories and roots in its Israeli home.
