Supreme Court Rejects Appeal, Calls Tel Aviv School Separation Intolerable

Israel’s Supreme Court rejected an appeal by 764 parents challenging the concentration of children without legal status in two south Tel Aviv schools. Justice Alex Stein wrote that the resulting separation, though not intentional, was intolerable. The court said circumstances had changed since the petition was filed, with about 47% of the children now studying in integrated settings, and urged the city and Education Ministry to expand those efforts. It ordered the authorities to pay NIS 30,000 in costs, saying the appeal raised an important social and legal problem and accelerated integration.
