Shin Bet Chief Approves Polygraphs for All National Security Council Staff

Shin Bet chief David Zini approved a request to require recurring polygraph examinations for every National Security Council position, despite professional objections inside the agency. A ministerial committee overseeing the Shin Bet is scheduled to discuss and likely approve the change on Wednesday, August 19. NSC staff currently take polygraphs when starting work, but many senior and professional employees lacked access to sensitive wartime intelligence because they did not undergo recurring examinations required for that clearance. The NSC said it does not comment on classified material or closed deliberations, while the Shin Bet declined to comment.
