Albany Woman Charged in Alleged ISIS-Inspired Plot to Bomb New York Capitol

Jessica Bowie, 35, of Albany made her first federal court appearance on August 20 on a charge of attempting to provide material support to ISIS. The Justice Department alleges that she surveyed the New York State Capitol, photographed the building and planned to detonate an explosive device while state senators were meeting before fleeing to ISIS-controlled territory in Syria. Authorities arrested Bowie on August 19 as she took possession of what she believed was an explosive device. The FBI led the investigation with federal, state and local partners; the allegations have not been proven in court.
