US Opens Engineering Probe Into Nearly One Million GM Vehicles After Engine Recall

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened Engineering Analysis EA26005 into 997,743 General Motors pickups and SUVs from model years 2021 through 2026 equipped with the 6.2-liter L87 V8 engine. Regulators received 499 complaints alleging engine failures after vehicles received an earlier recall remedy—473 after an oil-viscosity change and 26 after complete engine replacement—and another 191 reports involving engines built after the original recall period. The analysis will assess the effectiveness of GM's repairs and expands the investigation to later-production engines. It does not itself constitute a new recall.
