Iran and Oman Discuss Temporary Hormuz Corridor and Joint Mine Clearance

Iran and Oman discussed a phased framework for restoring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, including a temporary joint shipping corridor and a joint mine-clearance project. Their foreign ministers also called for continuing technical negotiations on a permanent corridor, future management, information exchange and security arrangements with other Gulf states. Oman's Badr Albusaidi said after the Tehran talks that he hoped a temporary corridor and practical arrangements could be announced soon. The proposal has not reopened the waterway; Iranian restrictions continue to constrain a route carrying a critical share of global oil trade.
