Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef Condemns Attorney General Over Ovadia Memorial Opinion

Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef used his weekly Saturday-night lesson to denounce Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara over what he described as an opinion barring a state memorial for his father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, before the election. Yosef said nearly one million Israelis from secular, religious-Zionist, Hasidic and Lithuanian communities attended his father's funeral, and argued that a memorial should proceed in a manner befitting a Torah leader. He contrasted the dispute with commemorations for Yitzhak Rabin, called Baharav-Miara “crazy,” urged listeners not to heed the opinion, and said the matter “will not pass quietly.”
