Iran’s Guards Say Supertanker Hit Two Mines and Caught Fire in Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said an unidentified supertanker struck two naval mines in the southern Strait of Hormuz and caught fire before stopping completely. The force alleged the vessel had been trying to use what it called an illegal route. It did not identify the ship or give its flag, crew status, casualties or an independent damage assessment. The Guards warned shipping to follow transit and security rules it has declared for the waterway; no independent confirmation of the incident was available.
