Explosions were heard in central Kyiv shortly after midnight on August 31 as Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital entered a fifth consecutive day, according to journalists in the city. No information on the latest attack's aftermath was immediately available. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had launched nearly 1,500 drones of all types over four days, including about 800 jet-powered drones, which he said were the hardest to intercept and were mainly countered by combat aircraft. He said four Ukrainian companies had developed interceptor drones and set a goal of stopping more than 90% of the jet-powered threat this autumn.
