Dutch police detained 34 people after officers responding around 4 a.m. to suspicious activity at a home on Ewijkseweg in Overasselt were fired upon. A 51-year-old man from Wijchen died, while two officers were hospitalized and later reported outside life-threatening danger. Specialist units made arrests at several locations, including the A73, the A76 near Maastricht, a cornfield and Nijmegen’s Stationsplein; warning shots were fired during some operations. Police seized weapons, data carriers and vehicles, said no suspects appeared to remain nearby, and continued investigating the motive and each detainee’s role.
