World Athletics ratified world records set by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo and Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi. Kiplimo ran 57:20 in the Lisbon Half Marathon on March 8, cutting 10 seconds from Yomif Kejelcha’s then-ratified mark. Wanyonyi clocked 2:11.83 for 1,000 metres in Monaco on July 10, his debut at the distance, lowering Noah Ngeny’s 1999 record by 0.13 seconds. The governing body said Wanyonyi became the first athlete in almost 27 years to break the men’s 1,000m world record.
