Japan’s Finance Ministry said fiscal-2027 general-account budget requests totaled a record ¥143.0656 trillion. Requests for debt service reached ¥36.6386 trillion as the assumed interest rate rose from 3.0% to 3.8%, while strategic-sector requests totaled about ¥12.2 trillion for priorities including artificial intelligence, semiconductors and economic security. Some items, including defense spending, remain unspecified, leaving room for the total to rise. The summary was released in Tokyo on September 4, and the government will review ministry requests before finalizing the budget at year-end.
