Warrego Highway Reopens as Crews Battle 78 Queensland Bushfires

The Warrego Highway fully reopened at about 5:30 p.m. AEST on Sunday after a bushfire warning for Plainland, west of Brisbane, was downgraded to Stay Informed. Authorities said the fire jumped the highway, threatened up to 20 homes and prompted police to door-knock residents, with some leaving voluntarily. Twenty-six appliances and two water bombers responded as 78 bushfires burned across south-east Queensland under hot, dry conditions. Officials expected the Plainland fire to burn for several more days, while a 24-hour fire ban covered Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley.
