IDF Diverts Munition Midair After Civilians Approach Hamas Target

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an oblique aerial view of a narrow Gaza street between damaged rooftops, with a light-colored vehicle and several small figures visible below, drawn in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel with cross-hatching on sepia newsprint.

The IDF said it redirected a munition in real time after detecting civilians gathering near a Hamas military-wing terrorist it was targeting in Gaza. The military said the weapon could not be canceled after launch, so forces diverted it away from the target to prevent harm to the civilians nearby. The IDF said the action reflected its commitment to distinguish terrorists from civilians and to take feasible precautions that minimize civilian harm during operations. The statement was published at 18:22 Israel time.
