South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation confirmed that a 30-year-old South African was abducted during an attack on a wildlife reserve at Marangira in Mozambique’s Niassa Province. The department said embassy officials were working with Mozambican authorities and monitoring developments. Mozambican police reported at least 11 people abducted, including children, while another estimate cited by AP put the number of Mozambican workers taken at 15 to 20. Police spokesperson Osvaldo Mahando said one person was killed, another slightly injured, vehicles were burned and security forces were searching nearby forests.
