New Zealand’s Average KiwiSaver Balance Tops NZ$40,000 for First Time

New Zealand’s average KiwiSaver balance rose 11% to NZ$40,340 in the year covered by the Financial Markets Authority’s 2026 annual report, crossing NZ$40,000 for the first time. Total funds under management reached NZ$138.8 billion, up 12.8%, while membership increased 1.6% to 3,440,473. Members contributed a record NZ$13.2 billion and the scheme recorded NZ$10.7 billion in gross investment returns, with net inflows of NZ$6.4 billion after NZ$6.8 billion in withdrawals. More than 50,000 members withdrew a record NZ$2.2 billion to buy first homes.
