Delcy Rodríguez Tells UN General Assembly Venezuela Will Hold Elections

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, told the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23 that elections will be held in Venezuela, in her first address to the body since taking power. She said her government has started a political dialogue with opposition sectors toward a process with equal conditions for all, but set no date, saying Venezuelans will determine the right moment. Rodríguez thanked President Donald Trump for his readiness to resume diplomatic relations and cooperation. She took over after a U.S. military raid captured Nicolás Maduro on January 3; it was the first Assembly address by a Venezuelan head of state since 2018.
