San Diego beat Chicago 4–1 at Petco Park on Wednesday night to complete a two-game sweep of the best-of-three National League Wild Card Series. Gavin Sheets hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer off Daniel Palencia in the fourth inning, scoring Xander Bogaerts and restoring a three-run lead. Bogaerts drove in a run and Ethan Salas hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning, while Nico Hoerner singled in Chicago's only run in the fourth. Mason Miller closed the ninth for the save, and the Padres advance to face the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Division Series, starting October 3 in Milwaukee.
