A nine-justice Supreme Court panel is hearing challenges on October 1 to Central Elections Committee disqualifications ahead of the election for the 26th Knesset. The proceedings concern Balad chairman Sami Abu Shehadeh, the Joint List, Ra’am and MK Ofer Cassif. Justice Noam Sohlberg, who chairs the election committee, had supported Abu Shehadeh’s disqualification. The hearing was reported underway on Thursday morning, with no ruling reported at that stage on whether the contested disqualifications would stand.
