Attorney General Asks Supreme Court to Uphold Sami Abu Shehadeh Ban

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara has asked Israel's Supreme Court to approve the disqualification of Sami Abu Shehadeh from the upcoming Knesset election, according to a Tuesday report quoting her submission. She argued that an article Abu Shehadeh published one day after the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attack expressed support for Hamas's armed struggle against Israel. Her submission says his conduct falls within the disqualification ground in the Basic Law: The Knesset. The court has not yet ruled on whether the election ban will stand.
