Brazil’s electoral authority has confirmed that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro will advance to a presidential runoff on October 25 after Sunday’s first-round vote. Its national results page marked the second round as mathematically established while counting continued. Bolsonaro, the Liberal Party candidate, had previously pledged to appoint an ambassador in Israel and move Brazil’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in 2027 if elected. He made that campaign pledge during a June speech in Buenos Aires; neither candidate has yet won the presidency.
