Urogynecologist Menachem Alkalay, 71, was sentenced on October 8 to 14 years in prison after being convicted of ten offenses of rape by deception involving nine patients. The conviction followed a trial in which the court heard evidence and accepted the complainants’ accounts. Prosecutor Meital Mor of the Tel Aviv District Prosecutor’s Office said Alkalay had presented sexual acts as part of medical examinations or treatment, abusing the patients’ trust. Lawyers from the Ministry of Justice’s legal-aid service represented three of the nine victims.
