Erdoğan Calls for Gaza Legal Accountability and Questions UN Legitimacy

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan alleged genocide in Gaza and called for legal accountability at the International Justice Summit in Istanbul on October 9. Speaking at Çırağan Palace, he said the international system could not be called just without that accountability and questioned the legitimacy of a United Nations system that does not reflect international will. He criticized the veto power of five countries over the wishes of more than 190. Israel rejects the genocide allegation: in a September 2025 speech, President Isaac Herzog said there was no genocide in Gaza and that Hamas had made it a base of terror.
