Israeli Developer Says AI Transcription-Blocking Device Is Planned for January

Israeli security researcher Ron Masas says he has a working prototype of the Off the Record Stick and plans to release it in January. The device, listed for preorder at $59.99 by his Weird Machines project, is intended to alter outgoing speech locally to make AI transcription harder while keeping conversations understandable to people. Existing Off the Record software for macOS processes audio through a virtual microphone for meeting applications. Masas says the planned hardware will also support phone use. He acknowledges that the approach cannot guarantee protection against every transcription system.
