Industry Warns Trade Restrictions Could Cost 4,000 Palestinian Factory Jobs

Industry sources and economists estimate that trade restrictions could put about 4,000 of roughly 18,000 legally employed Palestinian factory workers in Judea and Samaria at risk of losing their jobs. The warning concerns Israeli industrial zones including Barkan, Mishor Adumim and Ariel, where falling orders and canceled distribution contracts could force some factories to close or relocate. Manufacturers Association president Abraham (Novo) Novogrotzki said restrictions threaten Palestinian livelihoods and Israeli-Palestinian economic cooperation. Assistance, compensation and regulatory relief are being examined, while Israel seeks alternative export markets.
