Law Enforcement Reportedly Weighs Inquiry Into Rabbi Dov Lior’s Olive-Harvest Ruling

Israeli law-enforcement officials are reportedly considering a criminal inquiry into Rabbi Dov Lior over his ruling permitting Jews to harvest olives in Palestinian-owned orchards. Legal officials reportedly regard a possible racial-incitement allegation as legally uncertain and say the ruling contains no explicit call to violence, while an unnamed senior law-enforcement official argues that it encourages theft. Rabbis for Human Rights had earlier filed a police complaint concerning the ruling. The reported deliberations do not establish that an investigation has opened, that the rabbi has been questioned or that any criminal charge has been brought.
