Court Cancels Nahalat Binyamin Street-Seating Permits in Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv's Administrative Court struck down the city's policy allowing nighttime tables and chairs across sidewalks and in the roadway on Nahalat Binyamin between Kalisher and Montefiore streets. Judge Limor Bibi found that the arrangement changed the road's use without the required statutory planning process. Existing permits must end within six months or at their scheduled expiry, whichever comes first; new permits and renewals require an appropriate planning arrangement. Evening vehicle restrictions, late-night business permits and ordinary seating beside business frontages remain allowed. The municipality said it received Sunday's judgment and would study it.
