Court Unseals Comey Leak Case as His Lawyers Seek Dismissal

A federal court in Washington unsealed records on October 26 revealing a Justice Department effort to prosecute former FBI director James Comey over an alleged 2016 leak. A criminal information filed October 5 alleges unlawful communication of national-defense information to a reporter through intermediaries, and conspiracy. The department says the filing seeks to toll the statute of limitations. Comey's lawyers seek dismissal, arguing that prosecutors needed a timely grand-jury indictment and that the filing cannot preserve the case. Judge Trevor McFadden unsealed the docket at Comey's request without ruling on the merits.
