Dutch Cabinet Proposes Up to $500 Million for Tropical Forest Fund

The Dutch cabinet proposed contributing up to US$500 million over ten years to the Tropical Forest Forever Facility, with the contribution remaining conditional. Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma sent the conditions to parliament on October 26. The fund aims to raise US$125 billion, including US$100 billion from private investors. It would use satellite checks to verify forest conservation, with some proceeds going directly to Indigenous peoples and local communities. The government expects development work involving participating countries and the World Bank to finish around mid-2027.
