Inter beat Venezia 2–0 at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo in Venice on October 28, with two late own goals deciding their ninth Serie A match of the season. The victory took Cristian Chivu’s side to 25 points, level with Lazio at the top of the table. Venezia defenders Matias Moreno and Redouane Halhal put through their own net in quick succession. Marcus Thuram’s run and low delivery brought the first goal, while Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner led to the second deflection. Venezia had earlier seen efforts from Lion Lauberbach before halftime and Akor Adams in the second half ruled out for offside. Chivu acknowledged that his team had struggled to find space against organised opponents who defended deep. “We were a bit lucky today to bring it home,” he said. The Inter coach described low energy and slow attacking play, and credited goalkeeper Ivan Provedel with keeping the visitors in the match. He said experience, strength and determination had helped them secure the result. Inter have now won eight of their opening nine league matches. The club described the 25-point return as its best opening nine-match total in the era of three points for a win. Their next fixture is the away derby against AC Milan on October 31. Chivu said his players needed to recover energy, particularly mentally, before that match.
