Yavne’s Ben-Gurion Music School Wins Backing for Reading and Melody Initiative

Ben-Gurion Music School in Yavne has won support for a reading initiative that links words and melodies. The project, called Nigunei Kriya, or Reading Melodies, received backing through Yozmat HaElef. Its stated aims are to encourage reading while strengthening pupils’ sense of excellence and belonging. The support includes NIS 3,000 and professional guidance from an education initiatives fund. The initiative brings the school’s musical focus into its work on reading, using the connection between language and melody as the basis for the project. The municipality’s 2026–27 first-grade registration guide describes music as a central part of Ben-Gurion’s educational program. “Music is much more than a hobby,” the school says in its presentation. It describes daily musical activity as a way to develop perseverance, concentration and teamwork. The existing program includes the Kli-Koli choir for older pupils and the Efrochim choir for younger children, along with small-group instrument lessons taught by municipal conservatory teachers. The school also lists an active music courtyard and interdisciplinary work involving music, science and art with the Andalusian Orchestra of Ashdod. Plays, young-talent evenings and municipal performances form part of its activities, alongside creative community evenings involving parent leadership.
