Health Ministry Warns Against Unapproved Peptides for Weight Loss and Bodybuilding

Israel’s Health Ministry warned on October 29 against buying or using unapproved peptides promoted for weight loss, bodybuilding, improved athletic performance and skin rejuvenation. The warning concerns substances sold for injection or swallowing without the required approval and oversight, rather than medicines supplied through authorized channels. The ministry said these products “may pose a serious danger to health.” It named BPC-157, GHK-Cu, CJC-1295 and TB-500 among the substances being marketed. It also identified retatrutide, saying the substance is still undergoing clinical trials for obesity treatment and has not been approved for marketing in Israel. The ministry said its warning follows similar advisories from health authorities in Canada and Australia. According to the ministry, substances obtained from uncontrolled sources can cause liver and kidney damage, hormonal disturbances, changes in blood-glucose levels, allergic reactions and infections. Products manufactured or packaged without supervision may also contain contaminants or dangerous ingredients that do not appear on their labels. The warning addresses both the substances themselves and the uncertainty surrounding the contents of products sold without oversight. The ministry urged people to obtain medicines only through authorized channels and avoid purchases from unfamiliar websites or social networks. It said anyone experiencing symptoms or concerned about harm after using these substances should promptly seek medical treatment and tell the treating team what was taken. Reports of sales or marketing can be made to Kol Habriut at *5400. The ministry said it would continue working with enforcement authorities to prevent the importation and marketing of illegal substances that could endanger public health.
