India’s Election Commission Extends Voter-Roll Deadlines in Five States and Delhi

India’s Election Commission revised the timetable for its Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in five states and Delhi on October 29. Final rolls in Haryana, Telangana, Nagaland, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are now scheduled for publication on November 30. Delhi’s final roll is scheduled for December 22. The revised schedules set different deadlines for filing claims and objections and for the notice and disposal phase. In Delhi, claims and objections can be submitted through November 25, with notice and disposal work continuing through December 15. Maharashtra’s filing deadline is November 13, while its notice and disposal phase runs through November 25. For Telangana, the commission moved final publication from November 9 to November 30, extending the timetable by three weeks. The notice and disposal deadline moved from November 5 to November 26. The revision followed an October 29 request from the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, C. Sudharsan Reddy. Nagaland’s notice and disposal phase now ends on November 25, while Haryana’s ends on November 20. The commission communicated the changes in separate letters dated October 29. It directed the relevant officials to publicize the revised schedules and inform political parties in writing, ahead of the remaining filing, disposal and final-publication deadlines.
