Ryan Rickelton and Wiaan Mulder scored centuries at Newlands on October 30 as South Africa set Australia 288 to win the third Test in Cape Town. South Africa were dismissed for 387 in their second innings, leaving the deciding match and the series unresolved ahead of the final day. Rickelton made 101 from 219 balls, including 12 boundaries, while Mulder scored 115 from 221 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes. Their 154-run sixth-wicket partnership began with South Africa at 181/5. The International Cricket Council described it as South Africa's second-highest sixth-wicket stand against Australia. In a post marking Mulder's century, the governing body said: “A knock of substance from Wiaan Mulder in Cape Town against Australia.” South Africa had resumed the fourth day at 140/4. Matthew Breetzke made 43 before Pat Cummins had him caught by Mitchell Starc. Josh Inglis later ran out Rickelton, and Cummins dismissed Mulder as the last wicket after Kagiso Rabada had supported him. Starc finished with 3/65, Cummins with 2/71 and Nathan Lyon with 2/101. Australia had established a 100-run first-innings lead, making 429 in reply to South Africa's 329. The tourists won the Durban opener by 214 runs, before South Africa won in Gqeberha by an innings and 31 runs. The series is level at 1–1, with the final day scheduled for October 31.
