Yasin Ayari scored in the 11th minute as Brighton beat Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium on October 31. The Sweden midfielder's third goal of the season secured Brighton's first Premier League victory at the ground, with 3,044 travelling supporters in attendance. Brighton described the result as its “first win at the Etihad” in its Premier League history. Lewis Dunk began the scoring move with a diagonal pass to Diego Gomez on the right. Gomez sent the ball across goal to Maxim De Cuyper, who set up Ayari to finish from six yards. Just after halftime, Ayari supplied De Cuyper for another chance, but his first-time shot went over. City were unable to equalize. Dunk twice blocked shots from Erling Haaland, while goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen saved from Iliman Ndiaye and Matheus Nunes in the second half. Ndiaye also headed wide from Elliot Anderson's first-half cross and later missed at the far post from Nico O'Reilly's delivery. The clubs had also met at the Etihad in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, when Brighton lost a penalty shootout. This time Brighton protected its lead through a final corner deep into stoppage time. Before that, Georginio Rutter had held off two defenders and found Jack Hinshelwood, whose effort over Gianluigi Donnarumma went into the side netting.
