Kiryat Shmona’s 97th-Minute Penalty Holds Beitar Jerusalem to 1–1

Ironi Kiryat Shmona scored a stoppage-time penalty to draw 1–1 with Beitar Jerusalem at Teddy Stadium on Saturday, October 31. Amadou Sagna’s equalizer in the seventh added minute ended Kiryat Shmona’s run of six consecutive defeats. The match opened the ninth round of the Premier League. Adi Yona had put Beitar ahead in the 42nd minute, heading in Omer Atzili’s delivery into the penalty area on his first start of the season. Beitar controlled much of the opening period but created relatively few clear chances, while Kiryat Shmona looked to counterattack. After the break, Sagna and Ariel Sheratzky both struck the crossbar as the visitors pursued an equalizer. The decisive incident came when Sagna entered the penalty area and was challenged by Timothy “Timo” Muzie. Referee Dekel Tzino awarded a penalty and showed Muzie a second yellow card. Beitar coach Almog Cohen was also sent off after protesting the decision. Sagna then beat goalkeeper Miguel Silva from the spot to secure a point for the visitors. The draw left Beitar fifth with 17 points from nine matches in the post-match standings, missing a chance to move within one point of the league lead. Kiryat Shmona stood 12th with four points from nine games. Beitar’s next two opponents are Ironi Tiberias and Hapoel Jerusalem.
