Rabada Reaches 350 Test Wickets in Record 13,808 Deliveries

South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada reached 350 Test wickets against Australia on October 31, during the fifth and final day of the third Test at Newlands in Cape Town. He took 13,808 deliveries to reach the milestone, beating Dale Steyn’s mark of 14,719 and setting the record measured by balls bowled. South Africa’s national team announced the achievement that morning, calling it “Another monumental milestone for one of South Africa’s finest!” Rabada’s victims during the morning included Matt Renshaw for 0, Marnus Labuschagne for 4 and Travis Head for 14. The fast bowler was playing his 75th Test. His deliveries record is separate from the ranking by matches played: Richard Hadlee and Steyn reached 350 in 69 Tests, Dennis Lillee in 70 and Glenn McGrath in 74. Malcolm Marshall, like Rabada, took 75 Tests to reach that total. Rabada’s wickets came as Australia pursued a target of 288. In an earlier update from the opening over of the day, South Africa’s team reported that he had taken two wickets, leaving Australia 5/2 and needing another 283 runs. The career milestone was achieved while the match was still underway; it did not establish the result of the Test.
