UKMTO Reports Vessel Hit by Unknown Projectile in Strait of Hormuz

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency reported on 1 November that a vessel had been struck by an unknown projectile within the Strait of Hormuz. Its warning listed the incident time as 15:09 UTC and classified the report as an attack. UKMTO said a merchant-vessel master had relayed a Mayday call heard on VHF Channel 16. According to the agency, the call reported that “another vessel has been struck by an unknown projectile.” The notice did not name the affected vessel or identify an attacker. It also provided no injury figures or damage assessment. The agency said authorities were investigating and advised vessels to transit cautiously and report suspicious activity. The information in the warning came from a merchant vessel relaying the distress call, rather than a named operator's account of the affected ship. In a separate earlier incident, Nakilat said its liquefied natural gas carrier Al Mayeda was struck by unidentified objects while transiting the Arabian Gulf on the evening of 30 October. The company said there were no crew injuries or environmental impact, and that the vessel remained safe and operational. It said an impact assessment was continuing in coordination with the crew and relevant regional maritime-security authorities.
