India beat New Zealand by five wickets under the DLS method in the first one-day international at Eden Park in Auckland on November 4. The completed victory gave India a 1–0 lead in the ODI series, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The official match record lists New Zealand as all out for 185 in 40.2 overs and India on 143 for five after 22.4 overs. In its victory announcement, the Indian board said: “What a start to the ODI series.” The scorecard records the result as a five-wicket win using the DLS method. India’s bowling effort included four wickets for Arshdeep Singh, three for Gurnoor Brar and two for Anshul Kamboj, the board said in its innings-break report. Kamboj was subsequently named Player of the Match for his bowling in the opening ODI. Virat Kohli also reached his 80th ODI half-century, taking 35 deliveries to bring up the fifty. The board said he became the first batter to score 13,000 ODI runs from the No. 3 position. The teams’ next ODI is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, at Hnry Stadium in Wellington, according to the official fixture listing.
