Russell Brand Convicted of Rape and Three Sexual Assaults in London
A jury at Southwark Crown Court in London unanimously convicted Russell Brand of one rape and three sexual assaults on Thursday, November 5. The verdict followed a four-week trial. The Metropolitan Police said the four offences involved four women and occurred between 2004 and 2009. Brand, 51, of Oxfordshire, is due to be sentenced at the same court on Monday, November 9. Police said the offences took place at locations including a radio station, a DVD-recording set and his home. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy praised the women’s courage and the work of the investigation team, saying “no one is above the law, no matter how famous or powerful they may be.” Investigators traced and spoke to more than 100 witnesses, took more than 400 witness statements and reviewed over 1,400 documents, according to the police release. The force said the historical nature of the allegations meant there was no CCTV or forensic evidence available. Officers built timelines and obtained historical floor plans and photographs as part of their enquiries. Police also interviewed Brand four times. The police investigation began in September 2023. In a separate charging announcement on December 23, 2025, the Crown Prosecution Service said it had authorised two further charges, rape and sexual assault, involving two additional women and allegations dating to 2009. That announcement followed five earlier charges involving four women. The charging history is separate from the four convictions announced on Thursday.
